Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has reconciled with Atalanta FC following a summer-long standoff, committing fully to the team after productive talks with head coach Ivan Juric, with the 27-year-old set to bolster the squad’s attack starting with Sunday’s Serie A clash against Torino.

The resolution ends a saga sparked by Lookman’s attempt to force a transfer to rivals Inter Milan, leading to his public strike and exclusion from Atalanta’s lineup, including a 4-0 Champions League thrashing by Paris Saint-Germain on September 17.

Juric, who had sidelined Lookman for lack of commitment, held two pivotal meetings post-PSG, where the player reaffirmed his dedication, addressing teammates to explain his summer turmoil. Club captain Marten de Roon endorsed the reintegration, citing Lookman’s critical role.

Lookman, a 2024 Ballon d’Or nominee, had been limited to solo training after his transfer push failed, with initial talks with club owners yielding no resolution. The PSG defeat exposed Atalanta’s attacking gaps, prompting Juric to fast-track his return.

Gazzetta dello Sport noted the club’s urgency to restore the winger, who scored 17 goals last season, including a hat-trick in the Europa League final, securing Atalanta’s first major trophy in 61 years.

His reintegration is timely: Atalanta, languishing mid-table in Serie A with one win from four matches, faces a grueling schedule. Lookman’s match fitness remains a concern, but Juric plans to leverage his pace and flair—evident in his 32 goals and 19 assists over two seasons—to revive the campaign.
